Death By Chocolate

I'm constantly trying to think of cute recipes for Halloween, or in fact just in general!! I love baking (as you all know by now.....I could spend most of my time baking!!) Last week, I made these really yummy chocolate tray bake cakes covered in chocolate ganache and orange flavoured icing!

You will need

150g chocolate (I used milk chocolate)
200g butter
200g caster sugar
225g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
3 large eggs

Icing

250g milk chocolate
250ml double cream

Mix all the ingredients together and line a square baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Pour the mixture into the tray and bake on 180 degrees for 25-30 minutes. Alternatively place a skewer into the cake, if it comes out clean you will know the cake is cooked (The reason I say this is because most of the time I go by eye when I bake! And ovens are different! So make sure you double check your cake, the top should be nice and spongey and the skewer should come out clean!)

Turn the cake out and let it cool on a wire rack if you have one! While the cake is cooling, you can prepare your ganache by heating 250ml of double cream and slowly melt your chocolate. When the double cream starts to bubble and rise, pour it over your melted chocolate slowly and mix. You should ideally let your ganache cool or alternatively place it in the fridge for 1-2 hours.

Cover your entire cake with ganache before cutting it into little squares or any other desired shape. I then mixed up some icing sugar with water, orange food colouring and orange flavouring and piped it on the top!! The combination of chocolate + orange tasted extremely yummy!!!

Happy baking everyone!
