Slate Museum

Today, me and my dad went for a lovely trip to the Slate Museum in Llanberis! We only live five minutes away from it, and it's somewhere we never think of visiting due to the fact it's SO CLOSE!
I've been there a couple of times during my childhood, but re-visiting somewhere when you're a bit more grown up is always nice!
I had been looking forward to visit the old quarry hospital but unfortunately it was closed today (sad times indeed!) They have all types of extremely old medical instruments they used on the quarry men on show, plus you get to see what the hospital looked like a hundred years ago! It's extremely fascinating (although I can't stand anything medical or clinical in any way!)

Anyway, we had a lovely afternoon!
Admission to the Slate Museum is free although parking does cost £4! We went for the cheaper option by parking in the village and walked to the museum!

Have you ever been there?
It's extremely strange to think this was a working slate quarry a hundred years ago! This unfortunately was the life of so many men in the area, I know I would've absolutely hated it! Despite this, what they did was highly skilful and required a lot of dedication!

  1. I love visiting all these old museums they are always more interesting than you expect! That old hospital does sound great..maybe a bit eery too though!

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment :)
Definitely sounds great, I'll have to go back one day but yeah I do agree it's really eery!

  2. These museums are great places to visit, it's a shame that the hospital one was closed. It looks a bit of a ghostly place with the tea mugs on the tables and the coats hanging up, almost like the next shift is about to start and all the men will be walking through the doorway any minute.

    1. Yeah, it's really strange! It's like going back in time! They also play sounds of men laughing and talking in that room as if they were on a break! It's rather creepy!
Thank you for your lovely comment

  3. oh my goodness, this made me smile, me and my man visited the other month, mainly because I have lived so close, and he has never been. I always find that the men who work there now are so lovely and helpful! I actually love llanberis (not falling into the water whilst kayaking mind. . . but thats another story!) the slate museum was a bit of a cult-y cool thing to do a couple of years ago after everyone went out on a saturday night, the sundays were spent here. has some good memories.

I love reading all your comments, they make my day!
